What makes our story special? On the surface we may be just another Jakarta born-and-bred Indonesian couple living in Amsterdam, yet our seven years together proved to be more than that. Our contrasting family backgrounds, our healthy and interesting genetic mix – Chinese, Indonesian, English, Scottish, and Polish- resulted in our quadruple marriage celebrations at four different locations (Jakarta, Bali and twice in Amsterdam). As happy as we are with four amazing parties, we are left with no budget for a honeymoon getaway so we would love the opportunity to broaden our horizons and write another amazing chapter in our already colorful life story by visiting a beautiful spot for our honeymoon. All and all we are more than your average expat husband-and-wife living far away from home :-)
We met on Yuliani's first day in the Netherlands in university and we weren't instantly attracted with each other the first time we met. In fact, due to our mixed genetic make up, it took us several weeks to figure out that we're both Indonesian. Yet as the months passed, our differences soon took second fiddle to our similarities (being physically attracted to each other obviously helped) and we soon started dating. Seven and a half years later, here we are, happily married and raring to go on a spectacular honeymoon.
Like any aspiring globetrotters, we found it difficult to pick and choose one location, however in the end we decided that Tapobrane Island (http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/28913) in Sri Lanka is the ultimate dream holiday. It has all of the elements that will enamor us: quite solitude, beautiful panorama, blue enticing beach, and what we heard is one of the best seafood in the world. This is simply the place to retreat and find yourself again.
We are very lucky to be living in Amsterdam's famous canal area. It is an old heritage house with high ceilings and clear window where light streams in during the day time. Most of the time, you can find us cooking a storm in the kitchen. It is definitely the heart of the house. Both coming from the cultures that adore great food, you can easily find various spices from the exotic South East Asia to the delightful Provencal herbs in our pantry. The house is also filled with knick-knacks accumulated from our travels: Balinese wooden sword, antique Arabic lamp, Moroccan fez just to mention a few. Our home has interesting characters and we simply love it.
