Paul and I went to Istanbul last September for our friend's wedding and we fell absolutely in love with Turkey, and even more deeply in love with each other. On September 13th, 2010, Istanbul became forever engrained in our minds and hearts. On that magical evening, under a star filled sky, we were enjoying dinner on the island of Suada, watching random fireworks, all under the glowing lights of the First Bridge. We both felt overwhelmed with gratitude and teared up. I told Paul how much I loved him and how lucky we were to have found one another. Paul's, eyes full of tears, pulled a box from his pocket and proposed to me in the middle of the Bosphorus, halfway between Europe and Asia. WOW! Of course I said YES!!!!! Our waiter was slightly confused by our tears until we showed him the ring, then he joined in our tears of joy and celebration, as did everyone else at the restaurant. We will never forget the happiest day of our lives!
We met at a paella party thrown by a mutual friend in Venice, CA. I lived in Venice at the time and reluctantly went to the party with one of my best friends. Paul is a public school teacher and was on summer vacation and visiting from San Francisco. We noticed each other immediately. The attraction was intense and we both felt like somehow we had met before. As house parties often go, there was a line leading to the bathroom. While we were both waiting in that line, we noticed a picture on the wall depicting the detailed grid of the streets of San Francisco. This picture created an hour long conversation between two strangers who loved the same city, San Francisco. The rest as they say is history. We live together in San Francisco, madly in love and about to be married!

The BIRDS flat in Istanbul is where we were staying when we got engaged!!!!! Marco, whom we now lovingly refer to as our brother, is the best host ever! Read our review and see why you should be inspired to go immediately. Marco and this flat in Istanbul will ALWAYS be part of our great LOVE story!
#1 - We are within walking distance of Golden Gate Bridge.
#2 - We are within walking distance of Golden Gate Park.
#3 - We live in a very old apartment, circa 1920, with very few updates. The apartment still has the original icebox, which we use as a liquor cabinet, and our door buzzer is an old school telephone. Our place is decorated with lots of unique art, plants with funny names, trinkets and photos collected from our travels as a couple.
