Heartbreak turns to love

Submitted by: Holls131

My husband and I were married in 2006. It was absolutely the wedding of my dreams! I was marrying the love of my life...what more could I ask for?!
We never got to go on a honeymoon because of our schedules and our son being so young. I just couldn't stand the thought of leaving him. We would dream about places we would like to go, but everyday life and expenses have prevented us from actually being able to go.
Here we are, almost 5 years later, with two kids now, and we are talking about going somewhere for our 10yr. I'm OK with that, but would love to go sooner! More for my husband than anything. He gives so much for me and the kids, works his behind off, and this would just be something absolutely amazing that I would love to surprise him with!

Airbnb is all about connections - connecting to new people, places, and neighborhoods. In 150 words or less, tell us what your connection was like when you first met.

My husband and I actually met once before witout even realizing it. We were both going to the same college, and he was in the office when I had walked in. We both smiled at eachother, and he told me later, once we figured out that we had "met" once before, that in the back of his mind, he thought "I'm going to marry that girl one day".
Skip ahead to 2 years later when we really did meet. We had both just gotten out of relationships. Both of us were still hurt. My grandma had gotten me a job and a local spot and when I walked in, there he was. Our eyes met, and we smiled at eachother (once again). He had this amazing sense of humor that I immediately fell for! Our first date came about 8 months after that and we were engaged 4 months later. I truly believe it was fate for us!

It has always been my dream to visit the Irish countryside. I don't know if it has anything to do with my heritage, but I've always been drawn to Ireland. This little place, while not grand and fancy, stole my heart!

We are all about unique accommodations. Tell us three things about your home together that are unique to you as a couple.

Our kitchen is our number one! We both love food and we love to cook. He works second shift during the week (and during the Summer, works both 1st and 2nd), so we don't get to spend much time together. On the weekends, we make trips to our local farmer's markets and food co-ops. When the kids are in bed, we cook the night away and then settle down in our living room, with a plate and a movie. It's one of those things that we use to keep our connection alive!
We also enjoy making our home "ours". Doing things together around here gives us a sense of pride. Especially when we can stand back, loook at something, and know that we did it together!
